Views from newcomer children

Newcomer children are rarely involved in shaping their education, even when it comes to issues that matter to them, such as using their home language in learning.

This is why Zahraa Attar has carried out research into the experiences of newcomer children within the Multi-STEM subproject CHILD. How do they feel about their education? When do they want to use which languages? What advice do they have?

The results of this research have been made into the handbook “Views from newcomer children”. Zahraa’s research comes from interviews with three Syrian children in primary newcomer education and observations of their behaviours during formal classroom learning – and informal learning during a museum visit.

Currently, this handbook is only available in Dutch. To read it in another language we recommend using the translation tool DeepL.com.
